As we posted earlier, local Lake County, FL residents Marilyn Bainter and Stan Bainter filed a lawsuit against the Board of the North Lake Hospital District claiming it should not exist since it had not followed the Florida Constitution. Currently, the Florida law is followed by the Board which collects about $11-million per year and distributes it to two local hospitals, Florida Hospital - Waterman, and Leesburg Regional Medical Center (LRMC), and the lawsuit basically says that over time, the District Board did not follow requirements of the State Constitution, thus it is not legal, thus the tax is not legal, which will be decided by the Court.
This is the LINK to the Lake County online court records where you can follow the status of the filings, etc.
You can see a list of all postings related to the NLHD, and explanations of all the issues, by clicking the category "North Lake Hospital District" in the column at the right of this page, including ones that contain attached copies of the actual lawsuit.
Currently, no court date has been established, and we presume the above online page will show any such date in the future when scheduled.
