Tavares, FL - July 25, 2012
Last night, the Lake County FL Republican Executive Committee (REC) voted unanimously to approve a resolution to be presented to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners recommending they eliminate a regulation requiring frequent Septic Tank inspections in Lake County.
There was a law that required all Florida Septic Tank owners to have expensive inspections every five years and other restrictions, and it was reduced in coverage by the Florida government to only apply to counties that had "First Magnitude Springs" and Lake County has one single spring called Alexandria Springs in north County. However, County governments are now allowed to OPT out of that regulation if they want, so this REC resolution is asking the Lake County Board to do so.
Thanks go to REC member Andy Dubois for doing the research and presenting the resolution. No one in the REC was AGAINST the resolution, and no one spoke against it since the benefits were obvious. Former Lake County Commissioner Catherine Hanson described the history of the regulations and how excessive they originally were. (Note - The resolution was not a surprise - it was emailed to all members 2-3 weeks before the meeting, following REC rules for presenting resolutions.)
Basically, existing regulations require repairs for any non-working septic tank, and as they said "the need to repair them would be obvious" when the "effluent" or contents seeps out on the lawn or into the house plumbing. So why have mandatory, costly inspections instead of only acting when obvious repairs are needed? This is a "green" program that has run amok since
Since I attend most Lake County Board meetings, I know they have discussed this and I believe had asked staff to research the issue so a decision could be discussed.
The resolution will be presented to the Lake County Board by Chair Mike Levine (just elected last night) or Andy Dubois.
Here is the resolution and a link to a website with more information on septic tank "abuse" by big government. (:-))

It is time to reverse the damage being caused by overzealous "greenies".
Note: Readers know I periodically talk about Agenda 21 & sustainable development, which are programs initiated by the United Nations, and implemented by ICLEI and the American Planner's Association. The overall goal is to use "environmentalism" as a cover to implement socialism. You can read my white paper with other sources on this site at tinyurl.com/HaltAgenda21 . Part of their strategy to reduce property rights and move people into government controlled "transit villages" is to raise the cost of single family homes and rural homes. Increasing the costs of septic tanks employs the emotional environmentalists to do that, in my opinion. Most all counties in the US now have "comprehensive plans" that contain all sorts of land use restrictions to drive up the cost of land or force owners to capitulate to green objectives, like selling development rights which ruin the future value of land, or preventing land use due to the existence of some minor lizard. It is time all this damage be reversed, and all elected officials shoudl challenge the motives of "planners" who try to invoke these types of restrictions defined by the American Planner's Association.
