Vance Porker of the Month: CFPB Director Richard Cordray Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray Porker of the Month for his gross mismanagement of the CFPB's headquarters renovation budget, which has ballooned by almost 300 percent from a projected initial cost of $55 million to $215.8 million. According to a June 30 Federal Reserve Board of Governors Office of the Inspector General letter, CFPB officials were "unable to locate any documentation" related to the renovation, which includes such luxurious amenities as an indoor waterfall, a four-story glass staircase, a sunken garden, a custom "green" roof, and stools commissioned from world-renowned sculptor Maya Lin. The House Financial Services Committee has stated that "the CFPB is spending much more per square foot [$590] than it cost to build the Trump World Tower ($334/square foot), the Bellagio Hotel and Casino ($330/square foot) and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai ($450/square foot)." Apopka CAO Severance Pay doubles other cities, despite state law cap.

The law limits severance pay to 20 weeks, but Anderson's contract guarantees him 40 weeks. The contract is legal because he signed it one week before the state's new law went into effect. If the city wanted to fire him, it would have to keep paying him $16,000 a month for more than 10 months. "Totally ridiculous, it's not the way city government should run," said former mayoral candidate Gregg Phillips. Common Core Update - New negative issue caused by Common Core - recess eliminated

Tonight, July 28, 2014, was the Lake County FL school board meeting and several parents gave anguished public input about problems with common core - I have videos and will send out links in 1-3 days. - One very emotional mom pulled all three of her kids out of public schools due to the stress caused by the CC tests. She said her first grader was becoming suicidal over it. - Three parents complained that recess had been eliminated to add time for common core and brought in research papers about the need for recess for kids. One mom held up a bottle of pills and said she was told to give them to her kids since they couldn't have recess and had too much unspent energy. - These public input comments were not due to any agenda item and were out of the blue. If you have not been following news of the rapidly expanding Ebola epidemic in Africa or the diseases being brought into the US by all the illegal immigrants and kids crossing the southern borders without medical screening, I suggest the Lake County School Board ensure a plan of action exists to do full medical reviews of any undocumented new students arriving now or in the future. Of course, that may already be in place, but I haven’t seen any updates on this issue at School Board meetings. They performed a really simple calculation of dividing the STATE expenditures for 2013 by the State GDP (gross domestic product) and got a percent of 9.32% or sixth lowest rate of spending among states. The Lake County Board will Start the Process to Hike your Property Taxes 18% or MORE tomorrow, unless you tell them your opinion

Tavares, FL - July 21, 2014 Call for Action: If you are concerned about the County raising your property taxes up to 18% or more, you should be at the first approval meeting which is tomorrow, Tuesday, July 22 at 9am. It is the first of three meetings where the Lake County Board of Commissioners start the process to approve property tax millage rates by 18% or MORE. Tomorrow, they will set the maximum millage rate increase which will be on your property tax TRIM notice. The actual millage rate could be set lower at two future meetings. In my opinion, County Chairman Jimmie Conner is requesting all parties to pile on with budget requests to build up a big pot of "needs", then scale it back to maybe 5-8% and look like a hero. So the problem is not only the millage rate, but which services will be funded. So you need to provide input on both. PUP Medicare Advantage Insurance failure affected 38,000 customers in Central Florida, and administration needs FL Attorney general Investigation

This is an early version of this problem. Watch FiscalRangers.com for updates A Medicare Advantage Insurance firm, PUP, with 38,000 customers, including 2000 in Lake County, was declared insolvent about the 8th of June by the Florida courts. I was one of their customers. The process of moving all the customers to new providers or to Medicare seems highly questionable, and resulted in senior citizens getting surprise bills for 2-3 months of costs being deducted from their social security, retroactive to June 1, which was BEFORE the court decision. I believe an investigation of the procedural propriety by the Florida Attorney General or Auditor General is needed. That is because until customers are switched to Medicare, the insurance is under the direction of the Florida Dept. of Finance (need to verify which department). In my case, I have already enrolled in another Medicare Advantage firm, but it does not take effect until August 1. However, yesterday, Social Security sent me a notice they would be taking $100 out of my social security payment on August 16 for Medicare for August. New, Credible multi-state study finds almost 7-million voters registered in more than one state - What about Lake County??

A new study in just 28 states (not Florida) indicates 6.9-million voters are registered in more than one state. Lake County Puts off $8-million in Equipment Replacement & Maintenance, and now the Commissioners Want to Raise Taxes 18% to Make Up for it?

The Daily Commercial just reported that County staff is proposing raising property millage rates by 18% or more for many reasons. I was at the Board meetings and saw the presentations. In this article, one reason for tax increase request is because the staff and the elected Board failed to have a routine process to replace $8-million in depreciating equipment and/or budget to maintain it on a yearly basis. "County Manager David Heath said it would cost an estimated $8 million to replace all the vehicles, but it is not possible to replace them all at once." This up and down equipment replacement budget policy has to stop. Parade starts at 5pm Today is the great patriotic holiday, July 4th. “America” is a patriotic movie now in theaters, including the AMC theaters in Leesburg, where the producer, Dinesh D’Souza, describes all the complaints about America by liberals, then takes them apart one by one. You walk out of the theater being proud of America, not hostile towards America like Obama and the liberals. I saw the movie yesterday, and it was great. It helps understand the clear difference between American hating liberals and American loving patriots and conservatives. One big learning point for me is that the way that people increase wealth in most other countries is through CONQUEST, using force to TAKE property or countries. In the US, we have Constitutional freedoms and property rights they don’t have, and thus INDIVIDUAL Americans ALL have the opportunity to build wealth through entrepreneurship and improving property values.
