News about illegal immigration the Mainstream Media doesn't track and won't tell you.
A new Federal agency report says that 3809 illegal alien kids, known as UAC's or Unacompanied Alien Children, were relocated to Florida counties over the 7 month period Jan. 1 to July 31 of this year, 2014. 3298 of them were relocated to just 10 Florida counties who each received at least 50 children. (see table below). Nationwide, almost 37,477 UAC's were relocated.
Cost per year to educate UAC's is $40.7 million or more: If you multiply the 3809 new illegal immigrant children in Florida, assuming they are all enrolled in public schools, by the average cost of $8700 ( See this source) PLUS my wild guess of $2000 more per kid since they don't speak English to educate them per year, you get a surprise unfunded mandate of ( $8700 + $2000) * 3809 = $40.7-MILLION.
The agency issuing the report is the Administration for Children and Families, part of the federal Office for Refugees and Immigrants (ORR). The agency locates single or group "sponsors" who take the children. Other articles have described Federal payments being made to non-profits, Churches, etc to care for the children.
Some states had more and others had less relocations. In contrast to Florida, Vermont only got 3 of them and Michigan only received 124 in the same 7 month period.
A separate table showing Counties in each state receiving 50 or more kids shows only 10 Florida counties and Lake County was not one of them. Besides the 29,890 listed in the report, there are another 7587 children apparently relocated into other counties that had less than 50 relocations.
Here are the counts from Jan. 1 through July 31, 2014 for Florida:
FL | Broward County | 356 |
FL | Collier County | 160 |
FL | Duval County | 140 |
FL | Hillsborough County | 142 |
FL | Lee County | 232 |
FL | Manatee County | 59 |
FL | Martin County | 81 |
FL | Miami-Dade County | 1,127 |
FL | Orange County | 216 |
FL | Palm Beach County | 785 |
Total in 10 Florida counties: 3298 and a total of 3809 relocations in all of Florida. Florida was the fourth ranked state in total relocations, with New York being first with 4244.
Thanks to North Carolina's WatchdogWire.com which reported this same info on NC, and now we have it on Florida. Their article contains many more facts and reasons for the explosion of UAC's, which you can read there.
Recommendation:
Shouldn't the Federal government pay Florida taxpayers for ALL unfunded mandate costs of educating ($40+million) and caring for the kids? Our legislators should be suing the Federal government AND the sponsors of the kids to recoup those costs.
Forward this to your State & Federal elected officials and ask why the Florida taxpayer should bear the costs of these relocations.
