Jeb Bush's 2016 Election Chances limited by Common Core stand - George Will

Dec. 28, 2014 Even columnist George Will thinks Florida's Jeb Bush is in trouble by always supporting Common Core. Thus his chances at a 2016 Presidential election effort may be limited. Florida Commissioner of Education announces two initiatives regarding Commmon Core (Florida Standards) in Florida.

Dec. 22, 2014 Tavares, FL The Florida Commissioner of Education announced two initiatives regarding Commmon Core (Florida Standards) in Florida. Many parents are objecting to Common Core for many reasons. Commissioner Pam Stewart is taking on two of the issues, probably because Gov. Scott said he would conduct more reviews of the Florida Standards. The two initiatives are: 1) Conducting a review of standardized testing, which is a hotpoint with both parents and teachers. 2) The new Keep Florida Learning Committee will review further deregulation opportunities for the school system; review instructional material review processes used by school boards; identify strategies to increase parental involvement; and review the implementation of the Florida Standards and the Florida Standards Assessment over the next year. The problem is lack of credibility, since the last time the Bd. of Ed had hearings on Common Core, they ignored hundreds of opponents, and only dabbled at making a few inconsequential changes. FiscalRangers Alert: Bogus Miami area "non-profit" agency & grantee obtained over $1.2-million fraudulently from HUD and other grants over SIX years.

FloridaWatchdog.org reports that a "non-profit" grantee in the Miami area received improper and undocumented $1.2-million from HUD CDRG grants, CRA grants, city grants, and even ( <<<< click to read article ) a FL State grant from the Division of Blind services.. "Hall-Dennis submitted "fraudulent, phony and fake documents to obtain funds," according to a Miami-Dade County Inspector General's statement ." <<< click to read report. Her non-profit status was revoked by the IRS but no local grant managers verified her IRS non-profit status for two years. Hall-Dennis received $948,353 in total CBRG funding, which passed through a local government agency called the Miami-Dade County Department of Public Housing and Community Development. Another $234,500 came from the Homestead CRA , which also subsidized the Business Technology Development Corporation's office rent to the tune of $158,775. Officially, BTDC paid $1 a year in rent. "Records show Hall-Dennis allegedly used fraudulent information to bill government agencies for employee salaries. She also allegedly used a double-billing scheme to obtain funds from multiple government agencies for the same salary - BTDC operated with an average of five employees. Daily Commercial Discloses Capabilities of County Inspector General Bob Melton

Tavares, FL Lake County, FL Dec. 7, 2014 For eight years I have attended Lake County School Board meetings, and attended County Board meetings for 6 years. As a former Certified Internal Auditor I have preached the need to have competent Internal Auditors in both County Government and for the Lake County School District. During that time, each agency went through three auditors and now both have very competent Certified Internal Auditors (CIA) who focus on efficiency, effectivenes and economical operations reviews. I also was a CIA for 20 years. Today the Daily Commercial published a front page story by Livi Stanford on the County's Inspector General, Bob Melton. Livi is the reporter covering both the Lake County Board and the Lake County School District, and has recently been writing articles on the detailed audit reports from each agency's audit departments. Lake Sentinel Hit Piece on Lake County Rep fails to get updates or disclose it is a year old

Tavares, FL - Lake County, FL - December 7, 2014 Rep. O'Toole is at the right in this picture with Sen. Alan Hays at a recent Lake County Legislators Delegation meeting in Leesburg. Update Mon., Dec. 8 - I just spent two hours with Rep. O'Toole and will be updating this article by Dec. 9th with "the rest of the story" not provided by the Lake Sentinel. Normally, I appreciate the articles and columns in the Lake Sentinel newspaper section about local politics. However, today the Orlando Sentinel "Lake Sentinel" published verbatim a YEAR OLD Tampa Bay Times article disclosing that local FL House Rep. Marlene O'Toole (The Villages) had received $50,000 annual income from the local non-profit, Take Stock in Children, while voting twice for Florida State to give them a total of $15-million. The issue is a valid one, but a year old. However, the Lake Sentinel did not publish the article on their website, so we found it on the Tampa Bay Times website HERE. Lake County FL School Impact Fees Increased but growth costs still 25% Unfunded

Tavares, FL Dec. 7, 2014 The Lake County Board of Commissioners approved an increase in the Lake County School Impact Fees, raising it from an average $2500 per NEWLY constructed home to $7500. The fee is paid by the homebuilder at time of construction completion. HERE is the Orlando Sentinel story on the fee increase. Impact Fees are based upon the amount needed to generate new student stations (i.e. schools and classrooms) due to growth caused by new residents buying the new homes. Existing homes are not taxed, only new ones. The current rate is based upon a consultant's study required by Florida State that defines the average funds needed per home, and the current rate is about $10,200. However, the school district has no received full funding for years, due to waivers by the School Board and the County Board. Thus the approved increase will still not fully fund the added classroom space and facilities needed due to population growth.
