Lake Countians!
Will the Lake County, FL School Board implement "one world" IB education programs in our schools?
What do you know about IB or International Baccalaureate schools?
Yesterday at the Lake County, FL School planning retreat, both new Board members Stephanie Luke and Marc Dodd said they wanted establishment of one or more IB schools in Lake County to be in the annual plan. They didn't say have a workshop on it, they BOTH said they wanted it.
I emailed both Luke and Dodd and they both responded with an offer to discuss the issue, but did not provide any facts other than Dodd apparently went to an IB school in the Tampa area.
I am seeking out info from anyone that has personal experience with IB schools. They were created by the diplomatic community in Switzerland in 1968 and now there are thousands, and 168 in Florida.
I remember one criticism is that IB programs are "one world view" and downplay country history or cultures. (i.e. not much US History?). I will find sources for that.
What could go wrong with a school system created in Switzerland by non-US diplomats and is claimed to have a "one world international" viewpoint supported by the UN and UNESCO? The IB organization is an NGO with UNESCO. ?
IB schools are considered COSTLY competition for the AP program, and one study from Minnesota says the IB teacher training costs are three times that of AP teachers. Teachers in Redondo Beach, CA successfully killed a plan to move to IB education curriculum for several reasons, especially the increased fees and costs, and that not all students can cope with the workloads.
In another case, a Chicago High School with 20% of the students in the IB program, was forced by Obama buddy and Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel to move ALL students to the IB program. This article explains why Emmanual implemented more IB programs, that it costs $150-175,000 per school to implement, but it also says 40% of enrollees drop out of the program and "not every kid wants to do 5-hours of homework a night".
"Curie’s IB coordinator, Sharyl Barnes, listened to the mayor’s press conference with a bit of skepticism in mind. She said that choosing the right students and nurturing them is the key to a successful program, and that not every student will want to do four to five hours a night of homework--including numerous long essays.
A significant number of students who start out in the IB program during freshman year withdraw--almost 40 percent, according to the Consortium study."
You can find out more here, but if you have personal knowledge about IB programs, contact me at [email protected] .
I plan to issue a more detailed analysis of the IB programs next week and a FACTSHEET which will be posted in the pages section of this blog.
You can find reasons for the IB program here by the providers: http://www.ibo.org/
And below is a website with negatives of the IB programs. I am already getting responses from opponents after I asked for then via Facebook.

PS: Noted anti-Common Core expert Karen Schoen responded to our reader James Krakowski about her view on IB, and here is her rather direct comment:

Sure Chris. I have written many articles on this topic (IB).
If you go to http://americanfreedomwatchradio.com/?page_id=137
YOu will find information about IB background. (Note: You have to scroll down a long way).
IB is a UNESCO program with home office in Switzerland. Their prime goal is indoctrination into sustainable developments. Socialism through their programs like Wealth redistribution, UN ruler over US and man made global warming are some of the high points.
http://truthaboutib.com/ is the go to site for IB. Why would anyone promote a program that promotes the UN over the US?
Because they do not read the texts. The FDOEd told me that they do not monitor the texts in IB.
They dont even know if the IB kids test better BECAUSE THEY NEVER CHECK.
Kids do not rank highly, they are only good in sustainability. Education for a sustainable future. Not very well rounded.
Do any of the legislators ever read what they give the kids - NO.
