Sept 24, 2015 Tavares, FL
Sept 24, 2015 (Tavares, FL) - The North Lake County Hospital District Board met for the second required public hearing to determine the new fiscal year millage rate and related budget.
The NLCHD property tax has always been 1 mill and is used to subsidize costs for indigent health care at two major hospitals and five clinics in North Lake County.

They once again set the millage rate at the maximum of 1 mill, and the total budgeted operating expenditures in 2015-16 was approved at about $9,078,467. Total collections from the tax are expected to be about $9.6-million.
The meetings are now so routine that few people show up due to the Board rarely voting for any tax level less than the maximum allowed of 1 mill. However, one Board member, Liz Roebuck, did try to get the lower rollback rate set for the millage, but was the lone vote for that reduction.
The Board did vote to fund the five clinics at their request levels of about $1.2-million with the remainder being shared 50/50 between the two North Lake County Hospitals. Each would get $3.4-million.
The next meeting will be on Jan 21, at the Lake County Admin. "round" building on Main St. in Tavares, FL at 5:30 pm.

Note: This 1-mill tax will be up for voter renewal on the Nov. 2016 ballot, so expect to see actions to get North Lake voters to re-approve it - for the first time in 40 years.
