Tavares, FL Nov. 21, 2015
Who knew there is a method defined in the US Constitution and descended from the the British Magna Carta on how citizen activists can convene a Common Law Grand Jury (CLGJ) to investigate local Governent corruption.
A well known conservative talk show host and author, Jason W. Hoyt, visited Lake County, FL recently and explained how to setup a CLGJ. (A link to his video is below).
Many of us may know that current Grand Juries are run by County Prosecutors who direct every step of the process.
But some citizen activists are renewing an old practice that has been pushed aside by "establishment" attorneys.
Not long ago, the North Lake Tea Party (Tavares, FL) hosted visits by founders of the www.NationalLibertyAlliance.org who described how it took 7+ years to reverse a land grab by a local developer in the St. Augustine, FL area. They now are convening public Grand Juries in other states in cases where local officials broke rules and seized their properties.
Now, on Nov. 19, 2015, well known conservative talk show host and author Jason W. Hoyt visited the North Lake County Tea Party in Tavares, FL and described the process based upon his new book, "Consent of the Governed - The People's Guide to Holding Government Accountable".
He described the CLGJ process as a way to investigate and get rid of corrupt politicians without having to wait for elections. For instance, if government officials demanded a pay to play campaign contribution, OR approved a zoning change that harmed property rights of the owner, they could be investigated very quickly by citizens without waiting for government bureaucrats, County Attorneys or Prosecutors to act.
Hoyt performed significant research to support his recommendations. Apparently government attorneys in the past made changes to laws to make people think a CLGJ cannot be called without being run by government prosecutors, but Hoyt describes how they are wrong.
There have been setbacks to the CLGJ movement. One proponent was arrested for "practicing law without being an attorney" and put in jail. So, not every government entity is accepting of CLGJ projects.
You can see the 1 hour plus video of his presentation at our FiscalRangersFlorida YouTube page HERE.
You can order a Kindle version of his book, with links to over 300 references, HERE on Amazon. It is well worth the $5.99 price.

I bought the book and I am reading it now. Who knows, maybe some conservatives will implement such a CLGJ in Lake County.

Note: If you search Google on "Common Law Grand Jury" you will find lots of information. It is different than a standard Grand Jury completely controlled in secrecy by a County Prosecutor.
Note: Look for a planned FactSheet in our "pages" section on Common Law Grand Juries.
