Consumer Alert: Don't buy a new or used Chromebook without reading how they STOP support after 5 years of first manufacture date.
I just created my fact sheet on this little known policy by Google, whose motto USED TO BE "Do no harm". The local Lake County, FL School District is buying thousands of them, and I discussed this with the IT Director. He figures they will only last three years and is not a problem when they cost them around $225 (I think) to buy.
But, what about people who buy used Chromebooks from eBay (like I did) or from a government user without disclosure of the short life cycle? Or, what if anyone bought a Chromebook model made initially four years previously? The policy, unless changed later, specifically says support ends five years after first production.
