California Charter School Scammers got away with most of $50-million.
A huge $50-million Charter school scam was just reported in California where the defendants fooled many smaller school districts into letting them set up charter schools with fake students, fake fees, etc
This is timely because tomorrow, Monday, June 3, at 9:30 am, the Lake County School Board is reviewing the application from a charter school.
Florida has different regulations over charters than California, plus our districts are one per County, thus they are much larger with more competent staff and oversight than some of the tiny, city-based school districts in California.

These scamsters only operated in California. Hopefully there are no similar charter school scams in Florida or Lake County.
PS: HERE is a 2016 article about how there is little oversight on charter schools and a bubble of charter schools may fail due to lack of oversight. Now THAT is true for Florida, which has minimal oversight on charter schools, according to the LCSD presentations I have seen. Florida county based School Districts have little authority or oversight on local charter schools in their County.
PS2: And here is a report how 25 charter schools in Michigan received $1.7-million in tax funds but never actually opened.
