The Florida Department of Education issued a press release on Oct. 1 with a schedule of stops around the state for a "Listening Tour" to gather public input on proposed new K-12 Education Standards to reverse Common Core concepts. If you are a parent of K-12 students, you should be involved in providing input on improving the "Florida Standards" which are 98% Common Core as developed during the Obama administration and rolled out to many states as a condition to receive Federal Education funds.
We have published a page on the DANGERS of Common Core on FiscalRangers.com HERE.
According to the release:
"In January, Governor DeSantis issued Executive Order 19-32 to ensure Florida has the best academic standards in the nation by eliminating Common Core and paving the way for Florida students to receive a world-class education to prepare them for jobs of the future. This mandate directed Commissioner Corcoran to comprehensively review the academic standards for Florida’s kindergarten through grade twelve students and provide recommended revisions to the Governor by January 1, 2020."
The press release lists 10+ stops but none are in the area of Lake, Sumter, Orange, Polk, or Marion County areas.
We don't know why, but check out the schedule and see if you can either visit the online survey to submit comments about the second draft of proposed standards, or attend a meeting.
There is a link in THIS FLDOE "Standards Review" information webpage to a speech by FL Education Secretary Richard Corcoran and other references also.
