Tavares, FL Residents living off Dead River Road and HWY 19:
The Developer of a proposed 200 unit development on Dead River Road, DR Horton, agreed to make improvements to the intersection of HWY 19 and Dead River Road.
However, DR Horton is canceling the development, and the County has included the cancelation of the improvement plans in tomorrow's (Tuesday, Oct. 8) Board meeting, agenda tab 17. The agenda item is in the "consent" section, thus the Board is not expected to discuss it unless asked to do so.
The County stated in their cover page "The developer is not moving forward with the proposed development, which is within the City of Tavares, and wishes to terminate the agreement."
You can get the full documents from the County Board meeting agenda packet on their website, or read the attached 20-page termination documentation for Tab 17 details attached below.
The result is that hoped-for improvements to the intersection such as turn lanes and signal improvements will not be implemented, at least as part of the original developer plans.
We do not have details on WHY DR Horton canceled the development but will add them below after we check with City Staff. The project did encounter a lot of local resistance due to existing problems with traffic and the developer had proposed these improvements to facilitate City of Tavares approval.
