I emailed the Lake County Solid Waste Dept. for info why there was no yard waste pickup this week in my "Area 1" near HWY 19 & HWY 561 (Tavares unincorporated). City residents might have the same problem.
Here is her answer today, Thursday, Oct. 13 ( from [email protected] ) with a follow up:
From Heffler, Cindy <[email protected]
Yard waste pick up is suspended this week as we are giving the debris contractor time to come in and assess the areas and begin collection. They collected two loads in Sorrento area yesterday. Residents that have placed their storm debris in bags or containers are asked to place the material on the ground in the right of way as the debris contractor monitor cannot see in the containers and will not authorize the contractor to collect the material. Residents that have regular yard waste can leave it in bags (except for area 1 new contract does not allow bags) and the solid waste hauler will begin collection next week. If residents have more than 4 cubic yards of yard waste the hauler isn’t required to collect, it all. Residents also have the option to visit convenience center or Central landfill with their yard waste or storm debris and dispose for no charge. (You are in Area 1)
Follow up response:
The new hauler will pick up yard waste in standard trash cans, plastic bins, paper bags, biodegradable bags. Plastic bags are not acceptable. Limbs and branches under 4 feet long and less than 6 inches in diameter can still be stacked in small, manageable piles a the road.
Note: The contract hauler in MY Lake County "Area 1" will NOT take plastic bags, so check for the requirements of your city or county hauler.
