This Apr. 18, 2024, 65-minute meeting video was not a regular Tavares, FL P&Z meeting, but an apparent annual update for the P&Z Committee on Tavares commercial and residential developments, a good overview of the Planning profession history, and an overview of the Florida Live Local Act. They also provided large maps (see attachments) of pending residential and commercial developments and discussed them.
The LLA can result in a surprise high-density, maximum-height rental apartment building complex being constructed on industrial or commercial land without warning, hearings, or permits for the public.
However, from a public perspective, transparency was reduced by staff.
- They refused to make an official video of the meeting, even though the equipment and staff were in the same room.
- The Planning Director, Antonio Fabre, refused to allow public input or questions from attendees, even though the official, printed agenda specified an agenda item for "Public to be Heard".
So, what is it that the City Staff or Council does not want you to see or hear about the meeting? Ask them when you can.
