Yesterday, at a long monthly meeting, the Lake County, FL Republican Party membership voted to CENSURE two members who implemented political dirty tricks to prevent incumbent County Assessor Carey Baker (pictured) from being on the election ballot for re-election. Baker has already hired "Florida's best, and most expensive election attorney" and has filed a lawsuit seeking actions we will cover later.
Additionally, evidence was discussed about why Alan Hays, Supervisor of Elections, allowed Mark Jordan's new election paperwork be filed and timestamped 20+ minutes after the legal filing deadline of noon. And, Eustis Mayor Michael Holland was involved. According to witnesses, he now works for David Jordan and signed the check for Mark Jordan's registration fee payment.
In my opinion, athough this document is just a "Censure", many Republican attendees wanted more action to mandate that Mark Jordan drop out of the race formally, so Baker would win by filing as a write-in. And, many members wanted to demand that current Lake County, FL Tax Collector David Jordan, who assisted in the deceit, resign from that office. Most of the Republican attendees were REALLY angry at the Jordans for their perceived unethical election dirty tricks.
Here is the approved resolution, sent out by email June 26, 2024:
CENSURE RESOLUTION 24-02: CENSURE OF CANDIDATE MARK JORDAN AND TAX COLLECTOR DAVID JORDAN
WHEREAS the Lake County Republican Party expects moral standards of officeholders and candidates higher than for the average citizen;
WHEREAS Tax Collector David Jordan and candidate Mark Jordan devised a plot to steal the Republican nomination for Lake County Property Appraiser from the incumbent, Carey Baker, by taking advantage of Baker’s longstanding tradition of saving his constituents money by filing as a “write-in” candidate during the final minutes of qualifying week;
WHEREAS Tax Collector David Jordan and candidate Mark Jordan waited for Mr. Baker to exit the Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office at 11:59 am, in order to change paperwork to deceive and usurp the Republican nomination, without a primary election and without notice given;
BE IT RESOLVED:
That the Lake County Republican Party hereby CENSURES Tax Collector David Jordan and candidate Mark Jordan for their deeply immoral and depraved actions unbecoming of a Republican official.
