State of Tennessee Sues Feds over Refugee Resettlement Costs

Tavares, FL March 13, 2017 The Trump Team is expected to reduce Refugee Resettlement programs in the US in addition to the recent 90 day moratorium. When liberals whine that there is little cost to the program, you might remember this article about the State of Tennesee suing the Feds due to the excess costs absorbed by State taxpayers. Several states have withdrawn from administering the programs, but the Feds can designate a major charity to run the programs in the States. Apparently, the State's still have to PAY to run the programs and for welfare costs, so nothing really changes except the employees are not State employees. So Tennesee is now suing the Federal government, using a well known pro-bono conservative law center, Thomas More Law Center, claiming the forcing of refugees and costs on to the State taxpayers violates the 10th Amendment. Here is what I sent him regarding Refugee Resettlement programs: Congressman Webster, Congratulations on winning your election. Obama is planning to make a speech at a Sept. 20 meeting of the United Nations where he will announce a plan to request that Congress fund the importation of TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND REFUGEES starting in the Federal fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. HERE is the article providing an overview of Obama’s overreach, and here is a link to the letter sent to him by 40 NGO’s requesting that he double this year’s plan of 100,000 refugees to 200,000. 62 Mayors in 28 States, including four in Florida, tell Congress to bring in more Syrian Refugees

62 out of 1400 members of the US Conference of Mayors sent a letter to Congress urging them NOT to restrict acceptance of Syrian Refugees. This was even though the FBI Director has said in Congressional hearings they cannot vet the Syrians to determine if they are a security risk. Nov. 19, 2015 - Syrian Refugee Resettlement Update: Today there was a two hour House hearing led by Rep. Trey Gowdy on the Syrian Refugee program. Links to the hearing video are in this post. Federal managers talked in vague generalities (again as in earlier hearings), and then the House voted along party lines to approve HR-4038 which set tougher vetting restrictions for approving Syrian AND Iraqi Refugees.
