An Arizona county School District dropped reviewing any employee credit card purchase below $2000 to save administrative review time.
Then a local Arizona news outlet filed public record requests and found highly questionable spending over $3-million such as:
“Apple iPhones — smart big screen TVs, luxury clothing, lingerie, corsets and maternity wear, gift cards, airline tickets, resorts, gasoline purchases, Omaha steaks and even dog food — We also found roughly $3 million in purchases from Costco, Amazon and Best Buy. There was no discretion.”
This is why you can't drop spending controls where government employees are concerned.
We doubt that our local Lake County, FL School District has this problem, but this is a good reminder to ALL Government agencies why spending and approval controls must be used.
